Mental Illness

Cuckoo's nest admits patients with all manner of mental illness and psychological disorders. If there's a name for it and it could conceivably be better treated in a hospital than at home, then we can have it here. If you need help thinking of disorders your character might have, there are a ton of websites that can help. Here are a few:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_mental_disorders_as_defined_by_the_DSM_and_ICD
http://www.buzzle.com/articles/types-mental-illness-list-disorders.html
http://www.webmd.com/mental-health/mental-health-types-illness
http://www.bbc.co.uk/health/emotional_health/mental_health
http://www.neurosurvival.ca/ClinicalAssistant/scales/dsm_IV/dsm_index.html

In addition, this is a specialist website for writers who want to be able to accurately portray mental illness and psychology. Awesome, huh?

Comment below with any others you like, and I'll add them on :-)

We'd like to advise caution when using Delusional Disorder, which covers only non-bizarre delusions (e.g. being followed, rather than being an alien) and only in the absence of other conditions such as schizophrenia. Please do read up on conditions before playing them.

If there's a character you really want to play but can't think of an illness for them, leave a comment or contact me by email or chat and I'll see if I can help.
